December Happenings (including new wine class schedule!)
But also a toy drive & wine bar pop-up!
Hello! If you are just picking up the Grape to Table newsletter, thanks so much for joining to learn more about wine, food, and life. We have just wrapped up my origin story (click here to read), and we are diving into fun content focused on meaningful time at the table with delicious wine and food.
This is a special midweek addition to the newsletter that’s full of December happenings – including the release of my winter wine class tickets (click here – it is indeed a link!). Those would certainly make a special gift (IMO) – keep reading to learn more. But first can I implore you to help me give back this holiday season. I know there are LOTS of toy/gift drives going on all over the place, but at Edmund’s Oast restaurant (where I work as the wine buyer) we are collecting toys and dinner box donations to benefit North Charleston families at the second annual “Be Impactful” Holiday Community festival. Founder Deron Gadsden is a native of North Charleston who started Be Impactful in Texas (where he now lives and works as an engineer). But last year he expanded to give back to the community where he started! The festival will be held on December 16, and we are taking donations until December 10. AND we are offering a complimentary house beer when you stop by with your donation. If you can’t stop by you can feel free to mail donations via Amazon/etc to: Edmund’s Oast attn: Supply Drive, 1081 Morrison Dr, Charleston, SC 29407
Donations needed:
Toys & Games (ages 3 to 17)
Dinner Box Donations:
Cornbread/Stuffing/Dressing Mix
Cranberry Sauce (canned)
Canned Vegetables
I met Deron through a friend last year, and we held a drive at the wine shop/bar I was managing. Through this I got to know Deron and his parents (who are the boots on the ground here in Charleston), and they are all truly AMAZING. So I am determined to help make their festival a success! Right now our donation box is much lighter than I would like 🙁– and there’s only 9 days left to fill it. Please, please, please help me to help this amazing cause – thank you in advance!
Next up – more info on my winter wine classes: join me this winter as I host my popular Somm School (aka wine classes) at Wine & Company (a bottle shop and wine bar) at 441 Meeting Street, corner of Meeting and Spring, in downtown Charleston, SC.
The winter series will offer a Wine 101 class to kick things off and then a tour of major old world wine regions. It’s fun to do the whole series, but it’s also fine to pick and choose your favorites. The classes are perfect for those who are contemplating taking an entry-level wine certification or for anyone just looking to enhance their wine aptitude.
With each class you will taste four outstanding wines, enjoy a simple snack, and receive a well developed information packet (with maps)! Classes are 11:00 a.m. to 12:30-ish p.m. on listed Saturdays. Cost is $50 per class. There is a 50% discount for those who are actively working in the food and beverage industry. Please email sarah@grapetotable.com for the discount code and more info.

P.S. If you have not been to Wine & Company it’s a terrific wine shop/bar owned by my good friend Josh Walker. It’s a very comfortable setting for classes (and for hanging out!), and there’s plenty of paid parking adjacent to the building via the Reef parking app (it’s easiest to download the app and set up your account in advance). There is also some free parking in the garage beneath the building.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST! If you happen to be in Charleston over the holidays I will be hosting a “Wine Bar” night at Edmund’s Oast restaurant (1081 Morrison Drive) on Wednesday December 27, 5 to 10 p.m. I will be pouring some extra special wines by-the-glass for one night only (with a heavy emphasis on sparkling!) We will be taking reservations for parties of 1-16 in the Dining Room. Please call 843-727-1145 to reserve your spot(s).
